After graduating in 2011 with a degree in Business Administration, Cavalieri worked tirelessly towards his dream of playing professionally. The West Warwick, R.I. native and the club finally agreed on a contract in late August. He has spent the last several weeks with the club practicing and adjusting to what he refers to as a more fast-paced, rugged style of European basketball.
"Coach Brock played a huge role in my development and was a major factor in how I got to this point in my basketball career," said Cavalieri. "It's great to gain this experience and accomplish my dream of playing professional basketball overseas."
Cavalieri was a two-time New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference First Team selection during his time at Springfield. He had a terrific senior season during the 2010-2011 campaign in which he averaged 17.4 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. While leading the league in minutes played per game, Cavalieri shot 44% from the floor and 35% from beyond the arc. He finished his career with 1,117 points, 23rd most in Springfield's illustrious history.
"Matt always had an incredible work ethic and was always very driven on becoming a better basketball player," said Springfield head coach Charlie Brock. "It's great to see all his hard work pay off and we look forward to following his success."
