SPRINGFIELD, Mass., October 25, 2006 - Springfield College junior Emily Sheahan (Erin, N.Y.) and seniors Paul McCloskey (Brookfield, Conn.) and Ryan Mahoney (Westford, Mass.) all won multiple event to help lead the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams over the College of Holy Cross in a non-conference meet this evening at the Art Linkletter Natatorium.
The Pride women defeated Holy Cross by a score of 136-102 in its season-opener. Sheahan won two individual events, the 1,000 free (11:14.42) and the 500 free (5:29.85).
The SC men defeated Holy Cross by a score of 138-103, as McCloskey and Mahoney each won two individual events. McCloskey won the 1,000 free with a time of 10:19.40 and the 500 free with a time of 5:07.31. Mahoney won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:06.71 and the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:21.81.
In the diving events, freshman Matt Fitzgerald (Pelham, N.H.) won both dives for the men, while sophomore Erin White (Glastonbury, Conn.) and junior Melissa Nelson (Wallingford, Conn.) split the two women’s dives. Fitzgerald won the one-meter and three-meter dive with scores of 163.35 and 210.45, respectively. White won the one-meter dive with a score of 230.70 and Nelson won the three-meter dive with a score of 230.93.
The Pride will next host Division II Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) and Division I Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) in a tri-meet at the Art Linkletter Natatorium on Saturday afternoon, October 28th, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
