In this report, men's and women's lacrosse, baseball, softball, and men's and women's track and field were added.
Springfield College finished the year with 422.0 points, as it earned 123.5 points in the spring season. These points were based on the fact that softball reached the NCAA Tournament, the men's lacrosse team advanced to the second round of the NCAA's, and Steve Headley and Nikki Hay scored points for the track and field teams at the NCAA Championships.
Broken down, Springfield scored a total of 120 points in the fall, 178.5 points in the winter, and 123.5 points in the spring.
Springfield recorded the highest place finish out of any school in its conference, the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). MIT was the closest to the Pride as it finished in 38th.
Williams College captured the Division title with 1120.25 points.
The Sports Academy Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The United States Sports Academy, based in Daphe, Alabama, is the program sponsor. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports -- nine men's and nine women's.
Former Springfield College standout Mark Simeone will enter his 18th season as the head baseball coach at his alma mater in 2014. The 2012 NEWMAC Coach of the Year, Simeone will lead a veteran squad this spring. Read more.
