Brooker, Stevens, Tompkins Named To NEWMAC All-Conference Team
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Nov. 11, 2003 – Springfield College placed six student-athletes on the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference teams in field hockey, and men’s and women's soccer.
Field Hockey
Junior back
Kim Stevens was voted to the NEWMAC Field Hockey All-Conference First Team, while senior midfielder
Brianne Tompkins and sophomore midfielder
Sarah Brooker were NEWMAC second-team all-conference selections.
Stevens, a native of
North Knox, Maine, finished tied for sixth in the conference in goals (10) and tied for ninth in assists (six). Stevens led the Pride in points (26) as well as goals and assists.
Tompkins, a resident of
Stormville, N.Y., finished tied for 10th in the conference in goals (eight). Tompkins was second on the team in points (17) and goals.
Brooker, who hails from
Auburn, Maine, finished tied for first on the squad in game-winning goals (two), and third in points (15) and goals (seven).
Springfield College earned the No. 2 seed in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Field Hockey Tournament. The Pride (14-9) hosts Endicott on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
Men’s Soccer
Senior forward
Ryan Lavner was named to the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team.
Lavner, from
Shrewsbury, Mass., led the Pride in points (13), assists (three) and tied for first in goals (five). SC finished the season with a 4-11-3 (1-3-2 NEWMAC) record.
Women’s Soccer
Junior forward
Molly Desroches was voted to the NEWMAC Women’s Soccer All-Conference First Team while senior midfielder
Laura Harwood was a NEWMAC second-team all-conference selections.
Desroches, a native of
Belchertown, Mass., earned NEWMAC Player of the Week honors (Nov. 3) after scoring twice in a 4-1 win over Babson (Nov. 1). Desroches led the Pride in points (19) and goals (eight). Desroches also had four game-winners and had six goals in conference action.
Harwood, who hails from
Longmeadow, Mass., finished with a team-leading six assists, third on the Pride in points (12), and tied for third in goals (three). She scored the game-winning goal in the 94th minute to cap a come-from-behind 3-2 win at Clark (Oct. 25).
The Pride finished with a 10-9-2 (6-3-1 NEWMAC) record.
