



Complete ResultsNorthampton, Mass. - September 10, 2011 - Graduate student Brian Fuller finished fifth overall to lead the Springfield College men's cross country team to a second-team place finish at the Smith Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The Pride scored 43 points on the day, while New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Coast Guard won the Invitational with 33 points. Today's competition was the first for Springfield under the direction of first-year head coach Bryan Brown.
Fuller paced Springfield over the 5k course as he completed the race in 16:50.41. Teammate Ryan O'Connell took seventh in 17:01.95, while Ryan Allison placed 10th in 17:12.31. David Birdsall crossed the finish line in 12th in 17:18.63, and Matthew Peabody rounded out Springfield's scoring with a 14th-place time of 17:21.14.
Next Saturday, Springfield will race in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
Bryan Brown will enter his third season as the head men's cross country coach in the fall of 2013. Brown, who was a former All-American at Springfield College in track, is the reigning NEWMAC Coach of the Year after leading Springfield to its second-straight second-place finish at the conference championships a year ago .
