Flynn Advances in the NCGA Women's Gymnastics Championships

Carly Flynn Brockport, N.Y. -- March 23, 2012 -- Carly Flynn of the Springfield College women's gymnastics team, has advanced to the individual championship competition at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association championships tonight.

Two championships were determined this evening -- the team title and the individual all-around title

In an unusual occurrence, the College at Brockport and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater were declared team co-champions as each scored 188.050 points. Finishing third was the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with a total of 187.200. The final three teams were Cortland (185.550), Wisconsin-Eau Claire (183.700), and Ithaca (182.650).

In the all-around, Elizabeth Levy of Brockport was declared the champion with a score of 37.650. The remaining top five all-arounders included Kate Thompson of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 37.400, Courtney Mangini of Cortland at 37.250, Mary Kate Young of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 37.225, Morgan Shene of UWW-La Crosse at 37.075, and Johanna Warren of the Eastern Specialists at 36.975.

A total of seven gymnasts from Springfield College competed as individuals tonight. But one had to finish in the top 14 (plus ties) in order to advance to Saturday's competition. Again, the only SC performer to advance was Flynn of Franklin, Mass. in the vault. Her score of 9.575 tied her for sixth in the competition. Flynn will be up fourth in her vault competition on Saturday afternoon.

In other SC scores, freshman Lauren Pocius finished 13th in the all-around at 36.075. Broken down, Pocius's scores were 9.225 in the vault, 9.125 in the bars, 8.750 in the beam, and 8.975 in the floor. In the vault, besides Flynn's tally, Kristina Lantos tied for 35th at 9.250, while Abby Clark tied for 37th at 9.225.

In the floor exercise, Flynn tied for 34th with a 9.200, while Clark placed 47th in 8.950.

In the balance beam, Annemarie Graziosa placed 41st at 8.925, while Lantos was 54th at 8.075, and Keelin O'Connell was 55th at 7.975.

Finally, in the uneven parallel bars, Nikki Caradonna was 50th at 8.100, while O'Connell was 54th at 7.400.
