New London, Conn.- October 13, 2012 – The Springfield College men’s cross country team finished eighth out of 22 competing teams at the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday. The Pride finished the 8,000 meter course with 206 total points.
Connecticut was able to win the event with the lowest score of 86 total points, and an average time of 25:45.
Anthony Salvucci had an impressive showing for Springfield, as he finished fifth out of the 233 total runners. Salvucci’s time was 25:22, less than one minute behind the winning time of Ryan McGuire from Connecticut.
Ryan O’Connell had the next highest finish for the Pride, as he finished 11th overall, with a time of 25:42. Matt Scully was the next member of the Pride to cross the finish line, as he checked in at 26th overall, with a time of 26:09.
Erich Voelker finished 63rd overall with a time of 26:45. Also, finishing in the top five for the Springfield men’s team was Corey Hamel, who finished 129th after running to a time of 27:50.
The men’s cross country team will be back in two weekends, as they travel to Northampton, Mass. to compete in the NEWMAC Championships.
