Men's Tennis Cruises Past Rhode Island College, 9-0

Providence, R.I. - April 8, 2014 - The Springfield College men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 sweep of host Rhode Island College on Tuesday.

Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, Mass.) took first singles with a score of 6-2, 6-0, Justin Danielewicz (Portland, Conn.) won No. 2 singles by a score of 6-3, 6-1 and senior captain Joe Giannelli (Watertown, Conn.) easily won at No. 3 singles with a score of 6-2, 6-1.

Completing the singles sweep was Kyle Beynor (Prospect, Conn.) at fourth singles (6-0, 6-3), Josh Robinson (Southold, N.Y.) at fifth singles (6-2, 7-6 (7-5)) and Nate Weissman (Longmeadow, Mass.) at No. 6 singles (6-3, 6-1).

The Pride also cruised through doubles play, sweeping all three matches. DeVarennes and Giannelli won No. 1 doubles with a score of 8-5, Danielewicz and Beynor easily won second doubles (8-1) and Robinson and Weissman earned the 8-4 win at third doubles.

Springfield improves to 6-5 on the season and will return home on Wednesday, hosting Clark at 4:00 p.m.
