Women's Gymnastics Shines At UC-Davis
, Jan. 16, 2004-- Springfield College senior Jenny Romano-Joseph (Shutesbury, Mass.)
was the Pride's highest event finisher, placing second on vault at 9.525, as SC split with host Cal-Davis and Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Friday night.
Sophomore Mei Ling Clark won the uneven bars at 9.600 to lead Division I UC Davis to a first-place score of 187.600. SC finished second in the meet at 180.400, while Wisconsin-Oshkosh placed third with a 176.125 total.
Romano-Joseph was also one of two all-arounders in the meet, scoring a winning four-event total of 36.150. Senior Holly Desrocher (Methuen, Mass.)
placed third on the vault (9.300). The Pride, which is now 2-1 overall, has competed against two D-I teams already. SC topped Yale in its season-opener last Sunday.
The Aggies drew 1,517 to the meet as the gymnasts combined efforts with the UC Davis wrestling team in a simultaneous home event dubbed "Beauty & The Beasts".
UC-Davis' Tiffany Chan also captured the vault title with a 9.700, hShe capped the meet with a 9.675 on floor exercise, good enough to edge teammates Joanne Pizzo and Megan Nakagawa for the event win.
Wendy Wiederholt also highlighted UWO's evening with a third-place 9.525 on balance beam and fifth-place 9.500 on floor.
