Mike Shaw Earns Academic All-District Honors
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., May 27, 2004 – Springfield College All-American diver
Mike Shaw has been named to the 2004 Academic All-District I College Division At-Large Second Team, announced today.
Shaw, a
Westfield, Mass., native who recently completed his sophomore season at SC, carries a 3.9 grade-point average and plans to pursue a career in physical therapy.
In 2004, Shaw won the NCAA Division III national championship in three-meter diving and was runner-up on the one-meter board, guiding the Pride to a 17th-place finish. As a freshman at the 2003 NCAA Championships, he was third on the three-meter board and sixth in one-meter diving. The four-time All-American also won his second-straight New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Male Diver-of-the-Year Award, and swept both diving events at the conference meet for the second season in a row. Shaw, who won the Springfield College Outstanding Sophomore Male Individual Sport Athlete Award, holds three school records and eclipsed a 15-year-old record in three-meter diving this season.
To be eligible for Verizon Academic All-District teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.2 g.p.a. and be a starter or significant reserve on his team. The Academic All-District I College Division At-Large team is voted on by the sports information directors of Division II and III institutions located in New England and New York.

Diving Coach Peter Avdoulos
Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and will enter his 28th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2012-2013. The current NEWMAC Men's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions.
