Field Hockey Beats Wellesley, Falls to Ithaca

tallied the game-winning goal off a feed from junior midfielder Jen Durgin (Gorham, Maine)
4:03 into overtime to give the Pride a 2-1 win over Wellesley in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match on Saturday at Wellesley.
The Blue (8-6, 3-2 NEWMAC) got on the board first when Julia Hunter found the cage 4:49 into the game. SC quickly responded when junior back Kim Stevens (North Knox, Maine)
scored her sixth goal of the season off a cross from senior back Julie Winslow (West Falmouth, Mass.)
Springfield junior goalkeeper Lindsay Pardue (Houston, Texas)
made seven saves on the afternoon.
The Pride’s road trip continued on Sunday when SC traveled to Ithaca College for a non-conference match.
Daly and sophomore midfielder Sarah Brooker (Auburn, Maine)
both scored for the Pride, but it wasn’t enough as SC fell, 3-2, to the Bombers in overtime.
Ithaca got out to a quick 2-0 lead after scoring two goals in a 44 second span in the first half. Daly responded with a goal just before halftime and Brooker knotted the game 2-2 a mere four minutes into the second frame.
Ithaca (5-7) sophomore Natasha Snowden
ended the Pride’s hopes for a victory when she snuck a shot past Pardue 14 minutes into overtime. Snowden also assisted on Ithaca’s two first half goals.
Pardue ended the day with 14 saves.
SC’s record moves to 10-7 (5-1 NEWMAC).
