Pearsall, Sobel, and Fitzgerald Headed To NCAA Championships
Springfield, Mass. - March 6, 2009
- The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team will be sending three members to the 2009 NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships next week. The 28th Annual Championships will take place March 18-21, 2009 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
Springfield, which took third in this year's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships this season, will send one swimmer and two divers to this year's national event.
NEWMAC Diver of the Year Brian Sobel along with teammate Matt Fitzgerald were each selected to compete in the one-meter and three-meter springboard competition.
Greg Pearsall is the lone swimmer headed to the NCAA Championships as he qualified to swim in the 50 free, 100 free, and 200 free. Pearsall goes into the 50 free seeded 11th with a time of 20.46, 17th in the 100 with a time of 45.27, and 26th in the 200 free with a time of 1:41.29.

Diving Coach Peter Avdoulos
Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and will enter his 28th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2012-2013. The current NEWMAC Men's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions. Read more
