Colorado Springs, Colo. -- March 27, 2010 -- Ty Evans became a five-time All-American, and teammate Josh Fox, a two-time All-American, and Jimmy Pezzino a one-time All-American as Springfield College competed at the USAG's in men's gymnastics this past weekend at the U.S. Air Force Academy. Evans, a sophomore from San Jose, Calif., became an All-American in the all-around, the floor exercise, the vault, the parallel bars, and the high bar. Fox, a junior from Ellicott City, Md., became an All-American in the all-around and the pommel horse. Pezzino, a freshman from Buffalo, N.Y., became an All-American in the vault.
On Friday, Springfield finished in third place as a team with a score of 329.350. It was also on that night that the all-around occurred. Evans finished third with a score of 83.650, while Fox placed fifth with a score of 82.950. Nash Mills of Air Force and Derek Gygax of William & Mary tied for first at 85.450.
Evans continued his series of good performances on Saturday. He finished second in the parallel bars (14.300), third in the high bar (13.500), third in the vault (15.450), and fifth in the floor exercise (13.650), Evans had won the vault as a freshman in 2009.
Also on Saturday, Fox placed sixth on the pommel horse (12.950). Fox also finished seventh in the high bar (12.750), eighth on the floor (12.500), and eighth in the still rings (13.450).
Only the top six in each event earned All-American status at the USAG's.
Next weekend, the men's gymnastics team will participate in the ECAC's at William & Mary.
