



Springfield, Mass. - February 19, 2009 - After terrific individual performances last weekend, Springfield's Steve Headley and Nikki Hay were honored by the ECAC for their excellence. Headley was named the Division III Track Athlete of the Week, while Hay picked up Division III Co-Field Athlete of the Week honors.Headley won the 55-meter dash, beating out 118 other competitors, with a time of 6.34 seconds. Currently, the time stands as the second-fastest time in NCAA Division III, and also tied the junior sprinter's best mark of the season. Headley also finished sixth in the 200-meter race, with a Springfield College record time of 22.16 seconds.
Hay won three events, and anchored the 4 x 400 relay team to a second place finish this week. She took first and met the NCAA provisional qualifying standards in the long jump (18-1/2 feet), won the triple jump (38-11 ¾ feet) while qualifying for Division III New England’s, the ECAC Championships, and the Open New England meet. She also set a school record in the 200 with a time of 25.55 seconds.
Jim Pennington enters his 29th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2012-2013. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
