The Corozal, Puerto Rico native put forth an incredible showing in leading the Pride to its third-straight national championship. In the three matches of the NCAA Championship, Vega posted 48 kills at a .419 clip to go along with 16 digs, five blocks, and two aces. In the national championship sweep over Juniata College, Vega was dominant as he delivered a match-high 17 kills and four blocks. For his efforts, he was named the NCAA Championship's Most Outstanding Player for the second year in a row.
Vega becomes the first Springfield College student-athlete to be featured in SI's "Faces in the Crowd" since Mike Pelletier was featured in the May 21, 2012 issue after he guided the men's volleyball program to the inaugural NCAA Division III National Championship.
Former track standout Steve Headley was honored in the June 3, 2009 issue and was selected after winning the 100 meter dash at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, his second national title of the season after previously placing first the 55 meter dash at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Quarterback Chris Sharpe, was featured in SI's "Faces" in the January 22, 2007 issue for scoring seven rushing touchdowns in a win over St. John Fisher during the 2006 season.
