YMCA LEADERS ABUSHARR, GLADISH DELIVER ADDRESSES AT 118th COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES Rizek Abusharr, retired director general of the Jerusalem International YMCA, and Kenneth L. Gladish, national executive director of the YMCA of the USA, delivered commencement addresses at Springfield College's 118th ceremonies on the campus. Almost 1,100 bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, certificates of advanced study, and physician assistant certificates were awarded to graduates representing 29 states and 10 countries. Faculty, staff and students from the main campus and nine satellite campuses of the School of Human Services around the country participated in commencement events. Read more.
PRESIDENT RICHARD B. FLYNN TO SPEAK AT MacMURRAY COLLEGE COMMENCEMENT Springfield College President Richard B. Flynn will return to his alma mater, MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill., to receive an honorary doctor of education degree and to deliver the address at MacMurray's 153rd commencement services, Sunday, May 23, 2004, beginning at 1:30 p.m., in Annie Merner Chapel. SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE SCHOOL OF HUMAN SERVICES EARNS NATIONAL ACCREDITATION Robert J. Willey, dean of the Springfield College School of Human Services (SHS), announced on May 12 that the Council for Standards in Human Service Education (CSHSE) has awarded accreditation to the school, commending it as "an outstanding and innovative human services program." CHARLES REDMOND TO BE INDUCTED INTO NATA HALL OF FAME The National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) will induct Charles J. Redmond '68, G'71, chair of the Springfield College Exercise Science and Sport Studies Department and associate professor of physical education, into its Hall of Fame. The award is the association's highest honor. In naming Redmond, NATA cited him as a distinguished leader and professional mentor for the entire association through many years of service as an athletic trainer. Read more.
MURRAY RECEIVES AAHPERD PATHFINDER AWARD Mimi Murray '61, G '67, professor of physical education, was recently awarded the International Pathfinder Award by the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS) at the annual convention of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) in New Orleans. The award, established in 1991, was given to Murray in recognition of her pioneering efforts and continuous dedication to advocacy, recruitment, and enhancement on behalf of girls and women in sport. CHENEY HALL, WOODS HALL CAFE UNDERGO MAJOR RENOVATION A major renovation of Cheney Hall, the College's main dining facility, as well as a smaller renovation of Woods Hall Cafe, is currently being implemented by Springfield College and its food service vendor, Aramark. Read more .
SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE PROFESSOR SEEKS FORMER ACL PATIENTS TO REVIEW NEW CD-ROM TO HELP FUTURE PATIENTS Associate Professor of Psychology Britton W. Brewer is searching for persons who have had ACL (anterior curciate ligament) surgery to provide him with feedback on a CD-ROM being developed to help future ACL patients. Read more.

No. 9 MEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO STEVENS TECH, 8-4, IN NCAA TOURNAMENT Springfield College senior attackman Paul Purdy and sophomore attackman Taylor Brown were each credited with a goal and an assist but it was Stevens Institute of Technology advancing in the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament with an 8-4 victory over the Pride May 16 in New Jersey. MEN'S VOLLEYBALL LANDS FOUR ALL-AMERICA AWARD WINNERS Springfield College junior swing hitter Brandon Mueller was one of four Pride men's volleyball players named All-America by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Mueller, along with senior middle blocker Ricky Albano, and junior libero Eduardo Stawinski were named to the first team, while freshman Nick Beer garnered second-team honors and Newcomer of the Year recognition. SC AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED AT ANNUAL ATHLETICS BANQUET Springfield College honored its student-athletes at the annual Sports Recognition Banquet held May 2 in Blake Arena. Read more.
TWENTY-TWO STUDENT-ATHLETES HONORED BY NEWMAC Twenty-two Springfield College student-athletes were named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Spring Academic All-Conference Team. SC had 67 student-athletes honored on NEWMAC all-academic teams in the 2003-'04 academic year. Read more.
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD FIFTH AT ECAC CHAMPIONSHIPS Springfield College senior All-America Pawel Jarosewicz prepared for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships by winning the 400-meter dash at the ECAC Division III Championships on May 15 in Williamstown, Mass. Read more .
PAUL PURDY IS SC'S LITTLE BIG MAN IN MEN'S LACROSSE Dick Baker of the Springfield Republican takes a closer look at how the captain of the ninth-ranked men's lacrosse team overcame Chrone's Disease to become one of the program's all-time leading scorers. Read more.
