GRANTS FOR SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE AMERICORP VOLUNTEERS TO BENEFIT COMMUNITY Kristen McSwain, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Service Alliance, recently announced an additional year of funding available to Springfield College AmeriCorps volunteers. The funding will enable graduate student volunteers to contribute 27,000 hours of service in area schools, recreation, programs and community organizations over the upcoming year. Read more.
BOARD OF TRUSTEES ELECTS WOOD, WALSH, BLAKE AS OFFICERS The Springfield College Board of Trustees elected R. Lyman Wood of Hampden, Mass., as its chair, James E. Walsh of East Longmeadow, Mass., as vice chair, and Helen Davis Blake of Somers, Conn., and Stuart, Fla., as secretary at its annual meeting in May. Wood succeeds John A. Odierna of Longmeadow, Mass., who completed three years as chair. Read more.
NEW VIEWBOOK PUBLISHED Springfield College has a new undergraduate view book and DVD, designed and written with today's high school junior in mind. A limited number of copies are available by calling the Office of Marketing and Communications at 413.748.3171.
CHENEY HALL IMPROVEMENTS NEARING COMPLETION Progress is being made on Cheney Hall dining facility, which is undergoing complete renovation including a new glassed-in eating area overlooking the Administration Green. Completion of this renovation is scheduled for August, prior to the return of students. View via the Web cam.
NEW RESIDENCE HALL READY FOR STUDENTS The New Residence Hall, constructed adjacent to the Townhouses, is nearing completion and will be ready for occupation when students arrive on campus in August. View via the   Web cam.

ATHLETICS
SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE ATHLETICS CAPS OUTSTANDING SEASON BY FINISHING 26th IN NACDA DIRECTORS' CUP Springfield College is renowned for having one of Division III's top athletics programs. This tradition of excellence continued in the 2003-2004 academic year as SC ranked 26th out of the 424 NCAA Division III colleges and universities in the 2003-2004 National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Directors' Cup competition. ROGERS APPOINTED HEAD FIELD HOCKEY COACH Melissa Rogers '02 has been appointed head field hockey coach and instructor in the physical education department at Springfield College for the 2004-2005 academic year. Read more.
BILIK AND CLARK ELECTED TO N.E. BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME Former Springfield College director of athletics and head men's basketball coach Dr. Ed Bilik, and Denis Clark, a record-setting player at SC, will be inducted in the New England Basketball Hall of Fame as part of its class of 2004. Read more.
SCHWEITZER NAMED CHAIR OF NCAA DIVISION III WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SELECTION COMMITTEE Dr. Cathie Schweitzer, director of athletics at Springfield College, has been elected chair of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Selection Committee for the 2004-2005 academic year. Read more.
