PHYSICAL EDUCATORS CONVENE IN SPRINGFIELD TACKLING PROBLEMS OF CHILD OBESITY AND POOR NUTRITION As obesity reaches epidemic proportions in the United States, more than 1,000 professionals in physical education, recreation, health, and dance from 13 northeastern states convened in Springfield this month. DICK GREGORY, CIVIL RIGHTS COMEDIAN AND ACTIVIST, SPEAKS AT SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE Dick Gregory, the African-American comedian and civil right activist who was on the frontline in the American Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, spoke at a student forum on Feb. 1 in Appleton Auditorium of Fuller Arts Center. OBITUARIES
Dr. Kenneth L. McEwen'43, alumnus, former corporator of Springfield College, and Tarbell Medallion recipient, died Feb. 4, 2005. McEwen served as a corporator from 1961 through 2000, and was an active member of the student affairs committee throughout his years of service to the board. He was chair of the Alumni Fund in 1946, and was a member of the Alumni Council, leading his class fund-raising and reunion activities. He received the Tarbell Medallion in 1973. McEwen was a radiologist in the greater Springfield, Mass., area for many years. He leaves his wife Jane and their three daughters and grandchildren.

SUMMIT ON POSITIVE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT THROUGH SPORT TO BE HELD IN MARCH The National Football Foundation (NFF) Center for Youth Development Through Sport at Springfield College will partner with the College's Conference on Counseling Athletes to host the Summit on Positive Youth Development Through Sport March 18 through 21, 2005, at the Springfield Marriott in downtown Springfield, Mass.
