Position Description:
| Berkshire Hills Music Academy, a post-secondary school in South Hadley serving young adults with special needs who are musically talented, has an immediate opening for an Instructor of Life Skills. The Instructor of Life Skills, with the assistance of the Academic Department, will plan, implement, and evaluate the Academy's life skills curriculum designed to assist students with gaining their highest level of independence in all life skill areas.
Responsibilities of this position include: utilizing the existing assessment tools to evaluate the extent of classroom life skill abilities and limitations with each student, individualizing instruction according to each students' capabilities, teaching the life skills courses as scheduled each semester, and maintaining records and files of each students' progress.
Minimum Education Requirements:
•Certified Special Education Teacher or Occupational Therapist preferred
•Bachelor Degree in Special Education, Occupational Therapy or a related field
• Masters Degree preferred
Minimum Experience Requirements:
•Minimum of five years experience is preferred, but not essential
•Experience with and sensitivity to individuals with special needs
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•Strong teaching skills
•Computer skills, familiarity with assistive technology
•Strong organization skills
•Strong written and oral communication skills
•Certified in or able to obtain State of Massachusetts Medication Administration Program (MAP) certification, CPR, First Aid, and other certification requirements as mandated by Berkshire Hills Music Academy and its associated agencies (Department of Mental Retardation, etc.).
This is a full-time position with the hours of 10-6, with one day per week 11-9.
